It started off quite simply A place for people to share their hand-knits, songs, poems .. pieces, y'know .. an irregular arts and craft cultural cabaret, so to speak Where, with sharpened knitting needles, one would poke fun at people in the public eye, question the hole kaboodle that be the holy quest of current affairs
But be that as it may, well before May, before the whole schamoodle of The Leveson Inquiry into press ethics, be that a time when ethics and the popular press were uneasy bedfellows: As is said, the rags only met ethics when a story ran about lisping in the Home counties .. y 'know, Slim .. the only way was . . .. the only way is . . Ethics
A time, of course, when press presumed paperS !PLURAL when, if the "one and only" HOL Y ! SKUNK had then existed,
it would have been one of many in truth and NOT an only !
A time prehistory .. preHisStory .. before the news industry rent from the sticky intent of a certain Sikment Loyne which meant, in fact, that HOL Y ! SKUNK was now in effect the ONLY rag ..
But back then, and only then, was anything and everything up for grabs . . and thus our irregular cabaret - JUMPERS - would thank its lucky stars that knitting and singing and pisstaking could, with its saucy wordsmithing and musicjonesing, target a welter of lucky stars & starlets, plebs & celebs, through a wealth of source material
Now, Loyne's prescription for media proscription read thus: news restriction ; cultural constriction as y'know
And as you rightly testified, Slim, before Leveson . .
. . the news is not news unless it's a noose .... *
