KOILKLEEN 3 (wed. 3/4 )
Where Koo ( jh ) talk for england about the nature of british weather
and/or whether the british will turn naturally against britishDemocracy
b4 they turn against british TV
and we learn more about the Power of 17
As we learned on K2,
the Power of 17 is integral to the force borne by the modern Haiku as we know it.
For the Haiku has become as important to us as the air we breathe, as joey barton & wayne rooney have
noted so poignantly in their jewel-autobiography:
you may nick my frigging wheels but i'd be very reluktant for you to take
my compendium of traditional-and-non-traditional Haiku ! ( Barton/Rooney on/me/ed/son press)
However, there are other examples of how 17 be powerful . .. .
If we consider the romantic n-tanglements which people undertake, we can be pretty sure that these tanglements are likely to number 17 .
I base this confidence on the following table * :
NO TANGLEMENTS MIDDLEGROUNDSWELL LOTS OF TANGLE
nuns virgins the average joe Joeybarton lotharios
priests in absentia pigeons sex addicts/workers
ascetics white doves theKammerleg
YeSilentMonk (smokey) linnets Captains of Industry
Pope the HighKoo Borgia popes **
* table taken from Fractals: Can you see what they are yet? ( Rolf Harris Mandelbrot )
** as played by kolin farrell in the film In Borgias
So 2recap based on the LawofAverages, it happen thus that the no.of romantic n-tanglements
that a person is likely to experience is 17 ; which is odd in itself in that 17 is, as discovered, the no. of
beats/syllables in a haiku ; as it is also the date of TheHighKoo's birthday .
KOILKLEEN day 2 ( tues, apr. 2nd)
where JeanHackman talk 2&4 pKOO about the
Power of 17
Your esteemedHoohoo(hoo)liness, flock
In Japanese culture the Haiku be an essential, poetic form.
It can be a tad complicated in all honest, but take a peek at the Wiki entry on Haiku . .
This explains the importance, the power of 17 ; in traditional, japanese haiku there are 17 ON
- which are kinda like beats, syllables if you will .. tho not !exactly
Here, allow me to demonstrate this point with two haiku by the 17thCentury Japanese master Basho :
In their original japanese, both old pond and cold shower contain 17 on, arranged in 5/7/5 form;
but(t) count the syllables please! in their respective English translations -
old pond ... (2) the first cold shower (5)
a frog leaps in (4) even the monkey seems to want (8)
water's sound (3) a little coat of straw (6)
( trans - pastor'enryFrog) (trans - SilentMonkey )
Thus, as Dracula said to the mirror, the count is not straightforward . .. .. Syllables and On
do not necessarily correspond.
So, let's keep it simple shall?we - I quote myself in this instance :
Look lets not! beat about the bush ?eh . . we could bang on-and-on about all of this
haiku-hoohaa but(t) at the end of the day time is short, none of us is going to live4ever,
even Hildathatcher !
so 2cut2theChase heres wot a haiku is (striktly) :
17 syllables ; 3 lines (5/7/5) ; and (all) about the 'season(s)'
Of course some won't be like that at all .
from HackmanJean : Knit On Purl Harbor ; the history of haiku violation
So ... your High-Koo and all you flockyfolk tooo
the Power of 17 is evident .. but that's not the hole story by any stretch of the imagination . .. . .
